Incident: Swiss A343 over Atlantic on Jul 30th 2010, electrical problems

A Swiss Airbus A340-300, registration HB-JMF performing flight LX-65 from Miami,FL (USA) to Zurich (Switzerland) with 227 passengers, was enroute overhead the Atlantic about 45 minutes out of Shannon (Ireland), when the crew requested to divert to and a direct routing to Shannon reporting electrical problems but without declaring priority or requesting assistance. The crew expected a normal approach and landing. The airplane landed safely on Shannon s runway 24 about 50 minutes later. A replacement Avro RJ-100 registration HB-IYS was dispatched from London,EN (UK) to Shannon and took the first class and business class passengers to Zurich as flight LX-2767 reaching Zurich with a delay of 3.5 hours. A second replacement Airbus A330-200 registration HB-IQC was dispatched to Shannon as flight LX-2764 and is estimated to reach Zurich with the economy class passengers with a delay of 7 hours. The airline reported, that cabin lighting and the inflight entertainment system repeatedly failed due to issues with the circuit breakers. The crew therefore decided to turn off cabin lighting altogether and divert to Shannon as a precaution.
