29.07.2010 - 22:08
A Lufthansa Airbus A340-600, registration D-AIHE performing flight LH-492 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Vancouver,BC (Canada), was enroute overhead the Atlantic near Iceland when the crew declared emergency reporting a problem with the cabin pressure and requested to descend to FL100. A licensed aircraft maintenance engineer was on board, who in consultation with Lufthansa s maintenance base reset both air conditioning systems and thus resolved the problem. The crew cancelled the emergency, requested and were cleared to continue to Vancouver at FL240. Due to the higher fuel burn following the emergency descent the airplane had to divert to Montreal,QC (Canada), where it landed safely 3:50 hours after declaring emergency. After two hours on the ground in Montreal the airplane continued to Vancouver and reached the destination with a total delay of 7 hours.
