The NTSB released their final report concluding the probable cause was: An inadvertent in-flight encounter with turbulence, resulting in an injury to a cabin attendant. The captain had asked the flight attendants to secure the cabin earlier than usual after experiencing light to occasionally moderate turbulence throughout the flight with forecasts not indicating any improvement. The airplane was at FL240 when the flight attendants began the preparation for landing, all three of them standing. No returns were visible on the weather radar when the aircraft was exposed to severe turbulence for about 1-2 seconds with a maximum of 1.773G and a minimum of 0.391G. All three flight attendants were jolted up and fell back onto the floor, two received minor injuries, one serious injuries. The airplane received no damage.
