Incident: Finnair B752 and SAS B737 near Ostersund on Jul 2nd 2010, conflict [UPDATE]

A Finnair Boeing 757-200, registration OH-LBT performing flight AY-2414 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Helsinki (Finland) with approximately 230 people on board, was enroute at FL360 southwest of Ostersund (Sweden) on an easterly heading. A Scandinavian Airlines Boeing 737-700, registration LN-RRN performing flight SK-4083 from Narvik to Oslo (Norway) with approximately 130 people on board, was enroute at FL360 southwest of Ostersund on a southerly heading and a converging flight path with AY-2414. Sweden s Haverikommission (Swedish Accident Investigation Board SAIB) reported, that one of the aircraft received clearance to change flight level, the clearance however came too late to avoid a conflict. The circumstances are still widely unclear, an investigation has been initiated, interviews with the crews are scheduled. According to radar tracks the conflict occurred 62nm southwest of Ostersund Airport (Approximate position N62.52534 E12.86326) around 10:17Z. The Finnair 757 descended to FL350 briefly while the Scandinavian 737 briefly climbed to FL370 before both aircraft returned to FL360 after being clear of conflict. At 10:16:05Z the lateral distance between the aircraft was 11nm, at 10:17:02Z the lateral distance was 2.28nm (already past the crossing point), at 10:18:07 the aircraft were 13nm apart again. When the 737 reached the crossing point, the Finnair was 8 seconds or 1.2nm before the crossing point.
