Incident: Kelowna B722 near Thunder Bay on Jul 17th 2010, engine shut down in flight [UPDATE]

A Kelowna Flightcraft Boeing 727-200, registration C-GQKF performing freight flight KF-271 from Hamilton,ON to Winnipeg,MB (Canada), was cleared to climb to FL300 out of Hamilton, when the crew stopped climb at FL280 but continued in the general direction of Winnipeg. About 30 minutes later the airplane descended to FL240 and diverted to Thunder Bay,ON (Canada) where the airplane landed safely another about 40 minutes later. Following repairs the incident airplane was able to depart again as flight KF-2271 about 18 hours after landing. A witness on the ground said, that the aircraft arrived in Thunder Bay with one engine (JT8D) shut down. NAV Canada reported, that a hot air leak occurred in one engine prompting the crew to shut the engine down. The Canadian TSB reported on Jul 20th, that the lower body overheat warning light illuminated. The crew carried out the according checklists and was able to extinguish the light. The left air conditioning pack was tranferred to engine #2 (right) to restore redundancy, however the engine #2 bleed air high temperature warning illuminated. The crew performed a precautionary shut down of the #2 engine and requested to divert to Thunder Bay where the airplane arrived without further incident. Maintenance found a cracked bleed air duct, replaced the duct and returned the airplane to service.
